A large shade tree that’s known as a tough species; it can handle drought, moderate pollution, and a variety of soil conditions. Did you know woolly mammoths used to eat the seed pods of the Kentucky coffeetree? Trees produce large fruits to encourage animals to eat them for seed dispersal. However, these seed pods are too tough for many of today’s animals to properly germinate the seeds. This tree is a living example of co-evolution with recently extinct woolly mammoths.
