Scientific Name: Liriodendron tulipifera

A large, fast-growing shade tree with tulip-shaped flowers in late May to early June.  The simple, green-shaped leaves will glow bright yellow in the fall adding character to your landscape.  This tree is a vital host plant for tuliptree silkmoths, eastern tiger swallowtails and more!  It also provides a great food source for many of our pollinators and local wildlife, including red-throated hummingbirds as they enjoy its flowers’ nectar. 

ATTRACTS:

***Tuliptree silkmoths overwinter in a cocoon wrapped in leaf litter on the ground***

Leave fallen leaves alone or blow them to the side to ensure they emerge next season.
