The red maple is a beloved New England tree prized for its impressive fall display. The name is not misleading, this tree has bright red flowers in the spring, striking red foliage in the fall and even little red “helicopter seeds,” known as samaras, that spin as they cascade to the ground.  The red maple is a great food source for many of our pollinators and local wildlife.  It is also a vital host plant for many of our native moths including the Cecropia Moth, the largest moth in North America!
